In recent days, the air has been coming from arctic regions. Accordingly! temperatures have fallen below the seasonal norm. But how unusual was this outbreak of cold air? The following table shows the daily! deviations in the average daily temperature in degrees Celsius at selected stations.
The coldest day on the northern side of the Alps and in the mountains was April 4th! with temperatures mostly 4 to 7 degrees below the 1991-2020 norm. On the southern side of the Alps! however, it was coldest yesterday, with negative deviations in the range of 3 to 4 degrees.

Not unusual
To get straight to the point: The cold of the last! few days is not switzerland phone number library unusual. This statement is supported by a graph! from the St. Gallen weather station, which had the strongest! negative deviation in the daily average temperature! of any weather station on the northern side of the Alps. On April 4, the daily average in St. Gallen remained just below 0 degrees, 7 degrees below the expected value between 1991 and 2020. Record values for the beginning of April, on the other hand, are in the range of -4 to -5 degrees daily average temperature.

Outlook for the next few days
In summary, we can say that no more frosts (at least at a height of 2 meters) are aero leads to be expected in the next 3 days. The reason for this is not a warmer air mass, but the increasing cloud cover compared to the past few days, which will lie like a warming blanket on the cooling ground at night. As a result, the minimum temperatures will rise again to values around or above the norm, as the following graphs show. The same does not apply, however, to the daily maximum values, which are likely to remain slightly below the norm until Easter Sunday. A general warming of the air mass is only expected from Easter Monday, so that the daily average temperatures should also be above the norm again.
